Have you thought about providing beauty services at home or in an itinerant format? Hairdressing, massage and cosmetic services seem like the perfect way to combine a hobby and an income. But what does the law say about it? Let's find out together!
Is it possible to provide services in my home?
Short answer: No, you can't.
To organize a salon, you need a separate facility that is not your place of residence (law on entrepreneurial activity No. 455/1991 Sb.). Law on the Protection of Public Health (No. 258/2000 Sb.) requires that the premises comply with the strict hygiene standards described in the so-called a set of rules for the salon (provozní řád). This document regulates everything from sterilizing instruments to washing towels.
Important: the set of regulations must be agreed with the local branch of the Hygienická stanice, and this applies to each specific place where services will be provided. Therefore, a home-based salon cannot operate if it is located in a residential area.
Is it possible to work at the client's place of business?
Short answer: Yes, you can, but you have to get it right.
Here's the good news: yes, it is possible to work from a client's home. Law on entrepreneurial activity authorizes so-called mobile salons (mobilní provozovny) - places where services are provided temporarily, but not more than 3 months in one place (§17 No. 455/1991 Sb.). For example, you can provide services as an itinerant handyman.
But to be legal, you will need to develop and agree a customized set of operating rules for your mobile salon. This document must confirm that you are complying with hygiene standards for your mobile salon.
1. Develop a customized set of rules. This is the document in which you will describe:
- how you sanitize your instruments;
- how you store consumables;
- how you ensure sterility in your work.

2. Harmonize the document with the Hygienic Service. This can be done for each city where you plan to work. If you plan to work in more than one location, the code of practice will need to be approved separately by each local hygiene authority.
3. Note the restrictions. Technical devices (e.g. cosmetic devices) cannot be used. A separate permit will be required for each such device, which makes the approval process much more complicated. All equipment, including portable chairs, instruments and consumables, must comply with sanitary requirements.
